Machine Commerce, in brief

What it is
An applied AI research lab that measures whether AI shopping agents can actually buy from online stores, and what merchants must change to be chosen. Part of General Machines Pte. Ltd., Singapore.
Launched
2026.
First release
CartTrace-100k: 101,416 journeys of an AI shopping agent through 1,044 stand-in stores in 25 product categories, from a shopper's request to a checked cart or a paid order, over UCP, ACP, AP2, MPP and WebMCP. Test tokens only; nothing was bought on a real store. Paper by Pratham Bhatnagar and Deepanshu Pal. Apache-2.0, on Hugging Face.
Three numbers
  • 259 of 307 stores we captured carry schema.org structured data.
  • 8 of 16 direct-to-consumer stores were not named in a single answer from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google AI Mode to their own buyers' questions.
  • All 617 checkout calls we sent without signing in to the agent endpoints of 47 stores failed: the checkout tool was not there to call.

Method and sources: Agentic commerce in a carton box, Sources.
